Julia Cronin Rater has been engaged in civil litigation since she began practicing law in 1995 and has represented clients in more than 500 hearings on a broad spectrum of legal matters. Prior to joining McQuaide Blasko in 2010, she began to focus her practice on family law and real estate law.
Ms. Rater has extensive experience representing clients in all aspects of family law, including divorce, equitable distribution, child custody, child support, spousal support, alimony, protection from abuse, and child dependency proceedings. She advises each client on the legal process and their rights and responsibilities under the law, and attempts to negotiate a fair resolution of their legal matters. If the parties involved cannot agree on a resolution, Ms. Rater represents her clients in hearings before the court.
Many clients turn to Ms. Rater on family-law matters due to her training and experience in collaborative law. In this non-adversarial approach, the parties involved commit in writing to reach a mutually acceptable legal agreement under the guidance of their attorneys and other collaborative professionals. Ms. Rater has assisted many couples through this respectful, open, transparent process that seeks an out-of-court settlement decided by the participants themselves, rather than by a judge who does not know them or their family. She has found that collaborative family law can provide greater privacy and less emotional strain than conventional litigation does.
In the area of real estate law, Ms. Rater represents clients in a wide range of legal matters, including residential real estate transactions, title issues, land use, easements, rights of way, boundary lines, and landlord-tenant matters.
